Bleeding in the 2 week wait. Is it all over?

The 2 week wait for us was 11 days from the date of egg transfer. Exhausted from the treatment so far and Mothership relieved she doesn’t have to stab herself any more we decided to have a little holiday. The plan was to keep ourselves busy and distract from the slow moving time warp we felt stuck in recently. A nice relaxing week away was just what we needed.

The 2 week wait – Pregnancy symptoms

We couldn’t relax. We drove ourselves mad looking for any little sign that the transfer was successful. Motherships ovaries were still cross about being poked. She was full of all sorts of medication and generically feeling pretty crappy at being a pincushion on and off for the past 6 months. It was impossible to tell what was possible pregnancy symptoms and what was her poor body trying to recover from half a year of being hijacked by the baby making process. Her stomach was bloated. She was tired more than usual and her boobs growing. Defiantly growing. Like quite a lot! Maybe she was peeing more. May be we were imagining it.

Should there be bleeding in the 2 week wait?

6 days after transfer Mothership started bleeding. I quickly googled implantation bleeding and put my mind at rest. It wasn’t her period. It wasn’t all over for us yet. Just a little bit of spotting where the embryos had implanted. Quite common and nothing to worry about. Mothership said she felt like her period was starting but again, hard to tell. So many pregnancy symptoms are the same as that of an impending period. This is not a period. Please don’t be a period.

More blood

A few hours later it was more than spotting. Like the first day of a period. Form the hours of googling I concluded that it was too much blood to be implantation bleeding. My brain quickly started to recalibrate form looking after mothership through pregnancy to finding thousands more pounds to get our little frosty out and give them a chance. Mothership would need time to recover from this first but there is a plan b. Our journey wasn’t over yet. We went to bed that night feeling very deflated.  This holiday was rubbish.

No blood

I was expecting to be woken up by a hormonal Mothership well into day 2 of her period. Extra grumpy (and understandably) because it was all for nothing. This period wasn’t meant to happen. She should be pregnant not bleeding.

She wasn’t grumpy and she wasn’t bleeding! No blood. No period. We were so temped to test early but we wouldn’t have got an accurate result. Apparently it takes 10 days for the hormone from the trigger injection to leave the system. Test early and we could get a false positive.

Time to test.

After 11 long days post transfer it was test day. I woke up at 4am and couldn’t wait any longer. My pacing around woke the Mothership. We had waited a year to take this test. The bleeding had completely thrown us so we really couldn’t tell which way it would go. Unable to sleep there was only one thing Mothership could do at 4am. Piss on a stick.

Immediately the 2 lined appeared. Pregnant. We smiled so much our cheeks ached. It was implantation bleeding after all. What a relief. Finally our 2 week wait is over and we can relax a little and enjoy the next part of our journey to becoming parent.

Is 4am too early for celebratory potato waffles?
